Al Moudira - Luxor

Al Moudira’s exquisite beauty is the effect of tireless affection for the meaning behind each detail. Intention makes its home in her palm shaded paths between sparkling fountains and climbing flowers and invites you to stay. Here a world is created apart. Apart from the dust and desert, apart from the ever pressing present. Here is a pause in the propulsion from past to future, a created moment aside for reflection, for just being.

Soft jeweled tones, warm woodwork and patinas form a living painting where you find yourself during your stay, one of several characters as though torn from a novel. Al Moudira’s patronage are as interesting a cast as could be hoped for, in Luxor perhaps for the ancient sites, perhaps to relax, strolling palm lined paths to the pool and back before dressing for diner and taking a cocktail in the garden.

The hotel’s private, sprawling suites are unique in design and carefully curated with antiques and elegant custom trimmings. The sitting area and antique writing desk in my room were exceptional accoutrements to a writing holiday, they could have been customized to me. The bath designs however sparked my imagination and were nothing short of enchanting.

The hotel estate is appointed with timeless living decor throughout, it’s verdant and floral paths feel natural rather then landscaped, as though this lush Egyptian garden has always been here and the hotel is artfully wrapped around it.

If you explore the hotel you will come across one of its most compelling spaces. In the piano bar, found unassumingly tucked between the restaurant and the garden; generous arches and columns create plush and semi-private corners, framed by cheeky art and antique lamps. The design is so fun and tastefully executed, you could have stepped back in time to Egypt in the 20’s.

This is one of those magical places where you run the risk of not wanting to leave the compound, you feel as though the destination is here. Just so, dining in at Al Moudira is the perfect compliment to a long day sightseeing in Luxor, hiking into tombs in The Valley of the Kings or the end of a lovely, lazy day by the pool never having left at all.

Al Moudira’s German chef, Jans Shafer interprets Egyptian dishes with a euro classic approach to fine dining, delivering a light and fresh bouquet of mouthwatering offerings that often pull from the hotel’s own garden and mirror the seasons. The menu rotation boasts weekly poolside barbecues, Egyptian style and the service is as thoughtfully whimsical as you may come to expect.

Al Moudira is a one dreamy transition after another, from luxurious shade to beaming Egyptian afternoon. Latticed woodwork and jeweled glass be-spell your footfalls as you explore. The dessert smell of hot earth and sound of flowing fountains against a light breeze while you sip a drink by the pool is an intoxicating cocktail for the senses.

Easily making anyone’s top ten unforgettable stays, the hotel encapsulates the beauty of Luxor and Egyptian hospitality in a truly unmatched experience. Visit their site to book your own stay!
