Syo Tsitsikia St’ Armirikia
A beach front fish tavern located in Kini on the island of syros, ΔΥΟ ΤΖΙΤΖΙΚΙΑ ΣΤΑ ΑΡΜΥΡΙΚΙΑ translates to: Two Cicadas on the Armirikia Trees.
Greek food is one of my favorite cuisines. Fresh caught seafood, dips and sauces, and simple fresh fare made elaborately flavorful without pretension, what’s not to love! Of course, we search out the best of local food wherever we go, yet this stands out as one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Ok maybe the reprieve of the shade masking us from the hot Greek sun, the general merriment from the beach just steps away and the appetite accumulated from a long day contributed to the satisfaction, undeniably ambiance is a key ingredient which Syo Tsitsikia St’ Armirikia has in abundance.
Dining is packed out afternoons and evenings you may need to wait for the next open table. Bright blue shades frame both sides of the street and the local youth back from Athens for their summer jobs ferrying mouthwatering dishes to the beachside seating from the kitchen.
This authentic homespun menu hits the mark on every dish. Despite the simplicity, its flavor pairings are refreshing and delightful.
Some of our favorite dishes were the Octopus with vinegar and cilantro marinade; the chicken fillet with jasmine rice, an orange ginger sauce, and last but not least the classic Greek salad.
Syo Tsitsikia St’ Armirikia’s has been open in Kini for 14 years now. Owner and chef Ioannis Kairis was born in Athens but has lived on the Island of Syros for 21 years.
With a menu that entices you to sample absolutely everything and breezy shaded beach dining this locally owned staple deserves every bit of its acclaim.
